Bog
Bog has just put out their Muscle EP satirically housed in a mini-CD. It contains five songs written by former Jacket front man Andy Suva and arranged by the rock scene’s senior statesman Onie Badiang of Pan, guitarist Richie Malamug, and Soundcreation engineer/drummer/all around nice guy Shinji Tanaka. The CD opens with the acoustic “All I See,” a beautiful love song highlighted by its sparseness. The band follows up with the hilarious “Friends” and the catchy “Gusto Ko,” songs that will undoubtedly jolt the first-time listener after the solemn first track.

“ Friends” is something that the early Eraserheads might have recorded what with the lines “Ikaw gusto mo lang ay friends…tang **** friends!” but the music is reminiscent of Yano, the legendary band of which Badiang was a member. “Wondering Days & Nights” is pure pop perfection worthy of being compared to the songs of Matthew Sweet. If that isn’t reason enough to buy the EP, then “River” should put you to rights. Think REM during their IRS days. I should kill Suva and steal the song.

Actually, I’m going to kill Suva and steal the song.
